Overview

The Graduate Program in Soils and Plant Nutrition aims to complement and enhance the training of undergraduate students and stimulate research, extension and scientific education in the areas of 1) Physics, soil conservation and management; 2) Soil biology; 3) Pedogenesis and soil geography, 4) Soil fertility and nutritional management of plants and 5) Dynamics of organic matter and behavior of elements and toxic substances in the environment.

Scope

The program trains professionals to develop the necessary skills to work in teaching and research institutions, both in private or public institutions dealing with agribusiness and environmental issues, providing the students with a suitable understanding of the physical, chemical, morphological, mineralogical and biological properties of soil and corresponding plant interaction.

Objective

The main objectives of the program are forming human resources in a graduate-degree level and developing the main activities of the University from a multi and interdisciplinary perspective in the area of knowledge on soil science and plant nutrition, addressing soil-plant-water-atmosphere related issues.

Accreditation

The graduate program in Soils and Plant Nutrition is accredited by CAPES, a governmental organization which is responsible for assessing and accrediting higher education institutions in Brazil, with a grading scale ranging 1-7, where 7 is the maximum score. In the most recent triennial assessment (2010-2012), the Soil Science and Plant Nutrition program scored 7.

Theses and dissertations defended at the University of São Paulo starting in 2001 have been made available for online research and download. The project is associated with the Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (NDLTD), sponsored by UNESCO and provides the option of browsing the Soils and Plant Nutrition program catalog by thesis, dissertation, author or college.
