Overview

The Graduate Program in Plant Cell and Molecular Biology is an International Graduate Program with a particular feature of thoroughly encouraging international student mobility in different Institutions, combined with language and culture training. These features give the Program a truly international scope and enable qualified and prepared participants to experience different academic environments. Professionals who graduated in this environment of excellence, provided with a global view, should be capable of highest-level core abilities, carrying out academic, scientific and technological leadership in their areas of expertise.

Scope

The students are interested in research related to plant cell and molecular aspects of cultivated, native and polyploidy plants and their interaction to the environment. The Program's faculty expertise is focused in the following areas: Plant Quantitative Genetics and Breeding; Genetic Statistics, Genetics of Microorganisms, Genomics and Bioinformatics; Citogenomics and Epigenetics; Plant Cell and Molecular Biology of Plants; Evolution Biology; Plant Physiology and Biochemistry; Bioenergy and recently, Systems Biology.

Goal

Our goal is to generate knowledge and training to prepare researchers with high expertise on the development of cell and molecular biology of plants, professionals specialized in solving classical and emerging problems related to agriculture, plant breeding, natural resources, genetic diversity, energy and environment

Degrees granted

Doctor in Sciences, major in Plant Cell and Molecular Biology

Accreditation

The graduate program in Cellular and Molecular Plant Biology is accredited by CAPES, a governmental organization which is responsible for assessing and accrediting higher education institutions in Brazil, with a grading scale ranging 1-7, where 7 is the maximum score. In the most recent triennial assessment (2010-2012), the program scored 5.

Digital library of theses and dissertations

Theses and dissertations defended at the University of São Paulo starting in 2001 have been made available for online research and download. The project is associated with the Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (NDLTD), sponsored by UNESCO and provides the option of browsing the International Cellular and Molecular Plant Biology catalog by thesis, dissertation, author or college.
