Objective
(i) Understand the physical and thermodynamic principles involved in the drying and storage processes of agricultural crops. (ii) Evaluate different drying and storage systems, considering energy efficiency and product quality preservation. (iii) Study the interactions between environmental and biological factors in the storage of agricultural products. (iv) Apply modern technologies and innovative practices to reduce post-harvest losses and improve food security. (v) Analyze the impact of climatic conditions and market demands on the storage of agricultural products.
Content
The course covers the fundamental principles and technologies applied to the drying and storage of various agricultural crops. It will explore the mechanisms of heat and mass transfer during drying, the main types of dryers and storage systems, as well as strategies for quality control and minimizing post-harvest losses. The course also emphasizes sustainability and energy efficiency in the post-harvest chain.
