Objective
Provide basic knowledge of statistics applied to the time series of climatological data, as well as more
advanced topics such as the theory of regionalized variables, allowing the study of climates and their
variability, as well as the probability of occurrence of extreme events harmful to agriculture.
Content
INTRODUCTION: CLIMATOLOGICAL SERIES: treatment by descriptive statistics; gap filling methods by
data imputation PROBABILITY: definitions, theorems and distributions;
STATISTICAL DISTRIBUTIONS AND THEIR USE IN CLIMATOLOGY: Normal distribution; distribution and
its application in the distribution of rainfall totals per period; beta distribution and extreme values:
binomial and Poisson; negative binomial, for distributions with variances greater than the means;
ASSOCIATION OF CLIMATE VARIABLES: regressions and independence test
of factors;
HARMONIC ANALYSIS: applications in the distribution of cyclical climatic phenomena;
FUNCTION DISCRIMINANT AND ITS USE IN AGROCLIMATIC STUDIES: association of climatic variables,
correlation and regression, factor independence test;
CONDITIONED PROBABILITY: application of the Markov chain to determine the probability of climatic
phenomena with tendency and persistence;
USE OF THE THEORY OF REGIONALIZED VARIABLES IN THE TREATMENT OF CLIMATE DATA.
