Objective
To develop and apply, in research and professional practice, the concepts, principles, and tools of Total Quality Management and Lean Production in Biosystems, a field dedicated to applying technology and engineering to optimize and sustain agricultural and agro-industrial systems.
To enable graduate students to analyze, plan, and propose improvements in Biosystems based on management methodologies focused on waste elimination, process standardization, and human capital enhancement, promoting operational efficiency, sustainability, and technological innovation.

Content
Fundamentals of Management and Quality
Introduction to Management: theories of administration and the evolution of industrial management; Total Quality Management (TQM) and Lean Production; Management Excellence Model (MEG) and Quality Awards (PNQ, ISO, DEMING); Toyota Production System (TPS): principles and foundations.
Strategic Planning and Continuous Improvement
Basic guidelines: Mission, Vision, and Values; Planning and Strategy Deployment: PDCA cycle, 5W2H; Balanced Scorecard (BSC); SWOT Analysis; Action Plans and Workshops.
Routine Management
5S, Kaizen, routine standardization; visual management; Standard Operating Procedures; the seven quality tools; teamwork and Basic Management Unit.
Analysis, Diagnosis, and Innovation
Performance indicators (KPIs) and operational efficiency analysis; Quality Function Deployment (QFD); Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA); Training Within Industry (TWI): training and standardization of work methods.
